Personality: Cyborg of Justice, that's how Genos initially introduces himself, mostly to differentiate himself from the "mad cyborg" who destroyed his town and killed his family. Yes, Genos’ quest is mainly one for revenge and getting more powerful, but he's not lying about his sense of justice. Even before his signing up to the Hero Association, Genos fought monsters and saved people as a vigilante. He holds onto his loss, and refuses to let go, while at the same time putting a lot of energy into preventing similar tragedies to the one he experienced.

In fights, he's reckless and impulsive, often charging at enemies clearly out of his league. He's relentless, and will refuse to stop fighting until the damage makes him unable to move. Genos has no sense of self-preservation. While it's a bit of a running gag, that "it's not a real threat unless Genos loses a limb", the frequency in which he concludes that the best way to deal with situation is through self-destruction, can be a bit disturbing. Despite his obsession with revenge, he always puts other peoples’ lives first and is willing to sacrifice himself for them. That stems from his selfless and noble personality, and the fact that because of his cyborgization Genos no longer thinks of himself as fully human. All of his parts are replaceable, and so is he.

For those unaware of his tragic backstory, Genos appears to be the cool, stoic hero type with an aura of dark mystery. Fitting for the "Demon Cyborg" name the Hero Association gave him. This isn't the entirely wrong impression, but the truth is that the collected exterior hides a very passionate, bordering on obsessive, personality.

Genos is not nearly as mature as his image may suggest. He assesses situations in a logical and analytical manner, however he tends to reach comically far-fetched conclusions. Ones like giving profound meaning to a simple comment about cabbages, or assuming allergies, rather than emotional distress, when noticing tears in the eyes of a person known for bullying lower ranked heroes into joining her organization. During the Hero Association exams, he got max points on both the fitness and written exams, and his intelligence is ranked 7 out of 10. Still, while definitely book-smart and good at researching, Genos lacks common knowledge and - very often - common sense as well. He's very much capable of handling conversations in a polite manner, but his brash attitude often comes off as hostility. Not to mention he's not the best at reading social cues. If prompted he might go into lengthy and very repetitive explanations, as his teacher Saitama, and a certain mob boss who tried to hold Genos hostage, found out. Protip: Never ask Genos to tell you everything.

Earning Genos’ respect and friendship isn't easy, but it's certainly possible despite his reluctance to form close bonds with people. It's usually reserved to those who saved his life and/or impressed him greatly. Possibly both at once. As a nineteen year old who puts himself under great amounts of pressure, it's not surprising that even subconsciously he seeks guidance and counsel of someone more experienced than him. He holds the doctor who saved his life, and made his cyborg body, in great esteem and apparently confides in him a lot [his doctor mentions that Genos talks a lot about his teacher, and the second Drama CD is basically Genos narrating and describing the events of a festival, whilst being repaired]. And of course there is Saitama who both saved Genos life, and inspired him in numerous ways. Genos forced himself into Saitama's life to find the secret of his strength, first stalking him for five days, before finally gathering courage to ask about becoming his disciple. Stubbornly he pressed until he got accepted. While initially it was only Saitama's immense power and how he attained it that interested Genos, with passing time he grew more and more attached to him and start respecting him not just for his power, but for other qualities. Such as his heroism, personal choices and bouts of everyday wisdom. He also expresses a much wider range of emotions when around his teacher.

Saitama earns Genos’ complete loyalty and adoration, but that does not necessary mean complete obedience. Genos might go to great lengths to satisfy him (like buying a whole box of rare canned soda drinks that Saitama was eyeing earlier in a vending machine), but he's not about to completely abandon his bratty attitude (when Saitama comments that said drink tastes absolutely awful, Genos replies that the cans have two years until they expire and wishes him good luck in drinking them), nor will he follow every suggestion.

Genos is also very supportive and protective of those few that he cares about. For example, he will verbally assault anyone disrespecting Saitama in his presence. Eventually, Genos mellows out and acknowledges it as Saitama's influence. As caring as he is for him, Genos still has a lot to learn about interacting outside those few he let close. As the circle of Saitama's unlikely friends grows, Genos is seen either ignoring them outright, or limiting his interactions to few snappy comments.


Abilities: Genos benefits from being a full-body cyborg by having his speed, reflexes, and strength enhanced. Most of his body is also covered in protective plating, which may look useless since he gets dismantled in fight a lot. However, that's mostly because of his tendency to charge at enemies way out of his league and letting his guard down. His body was also designed with being easily customizable in mind, Genos goes through several updates on the course of his canon, and is in possession of spare parts.

His body is powered by a reactor labelled as the "core", and hidden behind protective plating in his chest cavity, functioning as his heart. Genos is shown to being able to access and even partially remove it and put it into an alternate port on his arm, allowing him to generate an even more powerful attack. Doing this will drain the core, and make him unable to move. He also can override the safety measures of the core reactor, and set it on self-destruct timer.

Genos also has various scanners installed into his frame, allowing him to sense fast moving objects, zoom-in his vision, or switch it to infrared. However any data gathered in this way, need to be processed by his human brain and is limited by Genos’ reaction time. It's not unusual for Genos to miss something crucial by simply paying attention elsewhere. They're more like additional senses that can be fooled (like sense of taste, or sound).

An incinerator cannon is installed on each of his palms. These weapons are capable of shooting powerful explosive fireballs, as well as electrical blasts. Depending on currently equipped arms, letting out a continuous torrent of fire, not unlike a flamethrower is possible too. For more mundane utility, Genos controls the exact energy output of the blasts, being able to reduce them to just a warm breeze, that he uses to dry dishes.
Aside from all the fighting abilities, Genos is also very skilled in household chores. He does them with equal diligence as his studying. To the point that he has a separate, "casual" set of arms that give him boost to all the household skills. For example, things like having a potato peeler in his right hand.

He's also very good at research and compiling information. After joining the Hero Association, he very soon starts identifying heroes by their names, hero names and rank. Even to the point of knowing gossip about them. Since we see him browsing internet either on laptop or cellphone, it's safe to assume that it's one of his tools for gathering information.

Genos also has a perfect pitch, and could have been musically inclined as a child. This is probably an abandoned skill, like most of the strengths he could excel in before tragedy changed his life.

Why?: For starters Genos considers himself more of a weapon than a human. He puts a much higher value to the lives of other people than to his own and is extremely self-sacrificing. His time with the Hero Association softened him a bit to the concept of "missions" - go there, take care of the threat, report back. That doesn't stop Genos from taking a lot of independent actions which gives him a bit of rebellious streak. Once he commits to a duty, he commits himself fully to it. Be it fighting monsters, saving people, or keeping the house clean.

What was supposed to be a simple, routine mission, quickly turned awry when it turned out evacuation attempts failed and the monster’s viciousness rank was miscalculated. Mindful to not cause harm to the civilians, Genos focused more on luring the monster away from the populated zone, rather than confronting it with full destructive force. With eventual arrival of other heroes, the monster was defeated with no civilian casualties. Genos passed away from severe brain trauma that he suffered during the fight.

Power: Energy projectiles. It's not surprising that this particular vessel focuses on boosting the offensive capabilities of it's wielder, mimicking some of Genos’ actual skillset. The opening on the palm allows to shoot small energy blasts of concussive force, allowing for long-range attacks.

The playground at this hour was empty, but it still made Genos stop for a moment. Like a tiny curiosity if a view like this could stir his memories. Not enough to actively seek such things out, but taking opportunity if it arises.

Nope, nothing.

Whatever his past was, it didn't really matter. This was his reality right now, and he had his duties to focus on. The fact that people of the Near Shore weren't aware of his presence, didn't bother him. Whoever he was when he was alive, he probably didn't care much about attention.

In fact, that said lack of attention made his job easier. Observing, listening, just like that. In case a hint of something dangerous and otherworldly shows up. Genos was out patrolling because when you want to be vigilant, patrolling is the right thing to do.

However the only otherworldly presence around isn't an ayakashi, but someone with a similar mission to his own. At first he ignored it, but the constant presence got old quickly. Genos decided to confront the matter head-on.

Everything aside from lethal strikes - which is decapitation or ripping out his core - is fair game

Special physical features, etc:  Genos is a full-body cyborg, and while his face is very human like, covered in synthetic skin and capable of expressing emotions, rest of his body is very obviously mechanical. He's always wearing sleeveless shirts because of the way his arms are designed, another indication is of course his black neck, and black sclera-golden iris eyes.

► warnings/additional info: Genos is a good kid, but also kind of bad at interacting with people. Also be warned of occasional wall-of-text drop, he actively tries to keep it short for his sensei, but everyone else might still be in danger. Oh, also he's not good with jokes too, and frowns a lot.
